On 15 April 1911, a group of residents nearly all of whom were German immigrants, signed a letter requesting that a school be established in their midst.
On 24 July 1911 it was recommended that a school be established in the district.
The school at Wondai was shifted to the school site at Binjour Plateau and a new back verandah added. The school was then 42' x 14' with front and back verandahs 7' wide. The first pupils started on 15 September 1913. By 26 September 29 pupils were enrolled and by the end of the year 37 pupils were enrolled 28 of whom could speak very little English. The first head teacher was John Woodcock.
